Test Review - Powers and Exponents

Hello Jellybeans,
I have posted some multiple choice quizzes to help you review for the test on Thursday. If you score less than 5/5, try the quiz again. New questions will be given from the question bank.

Powers of monomials

Multiplying a polynomial by a monomial - Remember, you can only combine like terms when adding and subtracting

Multiplying and Dividing monomials

First person to tell me the most important thing to do if you can't remember an 'exponent law' recieves 1 bonus mark on their test. Leave your answer in the comment box.

Good luck, and study well.

New Game - Circle 0

click here to play this game.

The goal of this puzzle is to put three numbers inside of each circle so that they add up to 0.

Solve the puzzle by dragging the black numbers to the blank spaces. You cannot move the blue numbers.

When the three numbers inside any circle add up to 0, the circle changes color.

Thanks to Mr. H and Sargent Park's Grade 8 Math Zone for this great puzzle.

If you want more puzzle's that are similar to Circle 0 - Try Circle 21 or Circle 99 for a challenge

A Maze Game with a Twist

Hey Jellybeans,

Here is the latest game that I came across for your enjoyment. It is called Slither Link and it's a combination of the game 'dots', mazes, and strategic thinking. You will really need to think ahead a move or two to do well on this one. You may also have noticed that I have rearranged the side bar on the right. All of the games that I posted earlier this year are now easily accessed under the heading of Games and Mind Benders. Just click on the title and have fun.

Better late than never

Great! I'm the first unlucky person that been chosen to create a new blog.. well, yeah, atleast i can help... First of all.. be prepared for the exam in science on january 27 th and30..

Reminders:do not bring any MP3, cellphones, or back backs, all you can bring is a pn or pencil.. When you finished the test early, u cant hang around on the hall, you have to stay inside the room for atleast 1 or 2 hours.
If you dont have a test that day, you are not expected to be on school, u must stay at home, or miss armstrong will kick you out by herself. for more further information, please dont ever ASK me! ask ms. AMY!!!.

What happened today?
this is what happened:
We talked about phoebe's rats.. Phoebe has 1 rat. She has 6 babies each. Each of the babies has 6 babies. each of their baby has 6 more babies. then those baby each has 6 babies. Phoebe thinks that she will have 25 rats all in all.
Show 2 errors in her thinking.
1.) Mathematical
MY ANSWER:
115 all in all instead of 25.
now thats wrong..
Jordans: 1297 all in all instead of 115.(now thats right) how did he get that answer?figure it by yourself..
2.)Logic error
* She cant be sure that bob the rat will have 6 babies, what if its more than six or lessthan. And what if theres boys?can they have 6 babies...?ofcourse not.. and what if theres no boy rats?how can they produce a baby without a boy rat? does that make sense?
Well im still struggeling in my english, so yeah sorry..
Exponent and powers

7 4. 4 is the exponent..
so it would be 7 to the exponent of 4..
we really didnt get to study lots about this coz mrs. Silva told us a story about her mice problem, shes so cool coz she has a friend mice...ANYWAYS
WORDS:
1;)EXPONENTIAL FORM-a short hand meathod of writing a # expressed as repeated multiplication.. SYNONYM -power e.g 126

2.)EXPANDED FORM - repeated multiplication of a base e.g 3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 a tree diagram

3.)STANDARD FORM-the usual way we write a number e.g 47 = 2401

4.) BASE -the # used for repeated multiplication 63=6x6x6

thats it for now, i run out of english..
just try to understand...

A Great Exponent Puzzle

Hello Jellybeans,
Here is a great little mind bender for you to work on when you have a few spare moments.

Narcissistic Numbers (by the way...narcissistic means excessive admiration for ones self)

153 can not get enough of itself. Proof: 13 + 53 + 33 = 153.

Can you find a number which repeats itself like this, using fourth powers?

What about tenth powers?

Thanks to 'Think Again!' for the great puzzle!!

A Tribute to Ms. Nicholson

Welcome back!

Hello grade nines!

How were your holidays? Mine were extremely busy, especially since I moved into a new place. I'm already back to school too since our university courses started last Tuesday! That means I won't be coming to your classes on a daily basis anymore... I sure will miss you! In one of my university classes, all of us student teachers shared about our experiences and I have to say that I got to brag about you and DMCI quite a bit. Thanks for the wonderful memories.

So, I just finished marking your statistics tests, and I've asked Ms. Armstrong if I can come to your classes on Friday to give them back to you. She'll let you know if that works. My favorite section to mark was the one where you had to create a biased question. You had a lot of neat ideas that I'll be sure to write down in case I ever teach this unit again.

By the way, wonderful work on those poems! And George, thanks for posting the table of contents for our statistics unit. That must have taken quite a bit of time on your part.

Have a good evening, and I look forward to seeing you again soon! :)
