FACTORING

THREE-POINT APPROACH

Factor: 2 or more numbers multiplied together to give a product.

Example: 8 x 2 = 16

Find the Factor:
1) 16 = (1, 2, 4, 8, 16)
2) 12 = (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12)
3) 10 = (1, 2, 5, 10)
- The GCF (greatest common factor) is 2

YOU CAN GET THE GCF USING FACTOR TREES

1) what is the GCF of 36 & 42

1)
36
=
6x6
=
3x2 x 3x2

2)
42
=
7x6
=
3x2

THE GCF IS 6
